Computers and the Internet

This is a series of ten chapters about the history, the present, and the future of computers and the Internet. There are a few chapters about early computers and a few about current trends There are also a few that look at what the future may bring. I think you'll learn some interesting things about these fascinating things that are changing our lives so quickly.

The level of the readings is Intermediate. Some of the language is technical, but you don't need any special vocabulary to read the stories. The meanings of difficult words are explained at the bottom of the page. You can cover the chapters in order or choose only the topics that interest you.

Each reading is between two hundred and three hundred words. You can time your reading speed for each one. If you keep a record of your reading speed, you can measure your improvement. Try to read as fast as you can, while still understanding what you read. Read the chapter at least once without a dictionary. If you can, try to guess the meaning of the words you don't know.

After the reading passage, there are ten questions. These are a mix of comprehension, vocabulary, and reading skills questions.

Finally, each chapter has some questions about issues that you might want to think about or discuss with your friends and teachers.
